My Reading Project

Challenges And Strategies

Challenges:
Strategies:
  • privacy
  • talk to a teacher or supervisor to sort it out

The first and only challenge I have against camp is people invading my privacy. In a way it goes against our school values and they shouldn't be doing it but to avoid this from happening I could ask the teacher to set a roster for people using the shower facilities.

MERC

The Marines Educational Recreation centre’s (MERC) location  is on Beach Rd Auckland. MERC is at Long Bay Regional Park which means it is a public area. MERC is a organisation that offers outdoor activities to help and provide education for people of all ages. They also hold holiday programmes and school camps that do team building activities for people to experience outside exercises/activity.

MERC allows day visits for groups and schools as well. They also accommodate people up to 85 persons to stay overnight with facilities that contains kitchen and dining areas including a hall for many purposes. There are a variety of activities held at MERC like Abseiling, Archery, Multi-sport challenge, Orienteering,  outdoor survival, climbing, kayaking, snorkeling and surfing. Each activity helps build team values. They also provide the resources needed for each activity.

MERC started 12 years ago in 1990 and until now it’s still a successful non-profit organisation with a mission “to provide life changing marine environmental education and outdoor experiences for young New Zealanders”.

Should I Trust You?

Today we did a trust challenge to prepare for camp next week.

We needed a partner to undergo this challenge. In a pair one student is labeled number one and the other is number two. For Both students to complete the tasks, they required an enormous amount of trust in each other to complete the 3 tasks given by the teacher. The aim of the first task was for one person in a pair to be led without vision by the other person that guides them to a specific destination desired by the teacher which was the front gates of our school.

After accomplishing the first task we procceded to the second task where we then switched roles so that the person being led now directed his partner anywhere around the school. We then all went to the classroom where we created a maze using the furniture.  This was the final task where the same pairs (one leading and the other being led) to navigate their way through the obstacles. The person leading, had to use his voice to help the blinded person successfully finish the Maze.

When he was older he worked in farms in the district, thinning turnips, milking cows, herding sheep's, building fences and shooting rabbits. He also owned a small farm owned by his mother's family, south of Brighton. During the war, Archibald Baxter  refused to fight and was punished badly for it.
